Faith to Believe

Today I was thinking a lot about faith and believing.  When we review scriptures in the Bible (NT) regarding faith and belief, whenever an individual asked Jesus for healing or deliverance, His response was “do you believe” or “according to your faith let it be to you.” (Matt. 9:27-29).  Unfortunately, many have faith to believe in what they see, but have a difficult time having faith to believe in what they do not see.  However, we are informed in the Bible that “without faith it is impossible to please God!”  Today we will learn that prayer is the doorway to heaven and faith is the “key” that opens the door.

Quite often we find ourselves praying, “Lord bless me!”  But are you aware in Ephesians 1:3 Father God has already blessed His children?  We are blessed with “all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”  So instead of praying for blessings Father God has already blessed us with, we need to pray believing by faith that God has released our petitions.  Our blessings are in the spiritual realm and we need to activate that blessing by believing in what is already ours.

It’s one thing to believe intellectually we are blessed, people say it all the time, “I am blessed,” but do they really believe it?  Friends, we need to change our thinking!  We need to believe in our hearts and minds that it is more powerful to believe by FAITH we will receive our petitions according to God’s will for our lives.  God says He delights in doing good for His children, but we need to activate our faith into the spirit realm by believing and not doubting after we pray.

The greatest example we have, of believing without seeing, is found in Matthew 14:18-21.  Jesus was about to feed the multitude of 5000 men plus women and children with 5 loaves and 2 fishes.  He told the disciples to seat the people in groups.  Jesus then took the 5 loaves and 2 fishes and looking up to heaven, He blessed the bread and loaves.  From that simple prayer of faith, Jesus fed 5000 men plus women and children.

What we learn from these scriptures is that Jesus believed with faith that His prayer would be heard and answered to feed the masses.  Jesus believed Hebrew 11:1 “now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen.” We need to follow Jesus’ example and activate our faith by believing for what we don’t see, but having faith to believe God will supply our petitions.  When we pray doubling God to answer our petitions, then know assuredly that our prayers will not be answered because we are being double minded (James 1:7-8).

Friends, if you are wavering in your faith, ask God for help!  A father in Mark 9:17-24 brought his son to the disciples for deliverance from a “mute spirit.”  The disciples couldn’t cast out the demonic spirit, so the father asked Jesus for help.  Jesus replied to the disciples “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you?”  Jesus said to the father in v.23 “if you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”  The father responded with tears “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.”  The theme of these scriptures is “faith and doubt.”  Jesus through these scriptures is reminding us that “nothing is impossible to those who by faith believe.

Let this be your last day of having a double-mind in your Christian walk, ask God to “help your unbelief” and remember prayer is the doorway to heaven and faith is the “key” that opens the door.
