15 Day Advent Before Christmas – Looking for Hope (Day 8)

The next stop on our journey we will look at Abram and examine the prophetic promise given to him by the Lord.  This message is found in Genesis 12:1-3; Genesis 13:15-17; Genesis 15:13-16; and Genesis 17:4-10.  In these verses we learn that God is revealing more of His plan to the reader.   “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great: and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” (Genesis 12:1-3)

Here we read the Lord God’s call to a man named Abram.  This was a call to separate himself from his idolatry family and all that he was familiar with to follow Him (God) to an unknown location.   Notice in these verses God reveals to Abram the reason for the call and a blessing for answering the call.  God was going to establish a nation with a family through which the Messiah would come from.  What we also learn here is that God does the calling and He awaits our answer!  Thank God that Abram answered the God and whole-heartedly followed God.

When Mary prophesied in Luke 1:55 she made mention of Abraham’s prophetic promise “As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.”  The child she carried was the “child of promise” that would sit on the throne of David with an every lasting kingdom.

In Isaiah we also read that God’s Servant would raise up the tribes of Jacob, and restore the preserved ones of Israel and God will also give His Servant as a “light” to the Gentiles (Isaiah 49:6).  Part of this prophetic message has been fulfilled.  The restoration of the Jewish nation is future.  Jews and Gentiles both who come into the “light” which is salvation by placing their trust in Jesus are heirs of Abraham

Friends, God never reneges on His promises.  The prophetic promises made to Abraham was good then and it is still good for today.  If you have not accepted Jesus through salvation, it is not too late.  You can ask Jesus into your heart by believing in his birth, death and resurrection and become an heir of Abraham.
