1 Cor. 12:12; 26-27 “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ….And whether one member suffer, all members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”
I had just finished baking my last batch of cookies. I put everything away washed the dishes and began to assemble my mini-chopper when suddenly the unexpected happen. The blade from the chopper got stuck inside the round bowl that house the blade. Not thinking, I tried to pull the blade out with my right hand. With the force of me pulling the top of the blade and holding the bowl container with my left hand, the blade popped out and slit the top of my left thumb and two places below. My thumb was cut in three places! Bleeding profusely I was unable to stop the bleeding, and did I mention the pain!!! After 2 hours of my husband trying to stop the bleeding using ice, my son went to the store to get butterfly bandages to bind the wounds. By 5 o’clock that evening with much prayer, the bleeding stopped. This incident taught me a valuable lesson.
After the bleeding stopped and Band-Aids covering my entire thumb, I soon discovered I was not able to perform the things I usually do on a daily basis such as, comb my hair, wash my face, wash dishes, put on makeup and my clothes. My wound became a handicap! This minor handicap reminded me of several scriptures in the Bible that teaches Believers are members of the Body of Christ with each member functioning as a different part of the body of Christ, which is necessary and important. The Body of Christ is made up of many members from every race, every color, every size, and of all ages with Jesus Christ as the Head. Every member of the body needs to function properly.
Scripture informs us when one member is wounded we are all wounded, we can’t function properly until we are healed (I learned this with my wounded thumb). Wounds that affect the Body of Christ are issues that have no heavenly value such as, arguing amongst ourselves which divides or separates the body; becoming offended when we disagree with one another; arguing over positions; being partial towards others, etc.! Through this valuable lesson I was also reminded that we need to pray even more for each other so that we can be healed and function as God has placed us in our unique position, which brings about unity.
The church, the body of Christ, is crippled! We have allowed the world to infiltrate our body. Many are compromising the truth by being vexed by the spirit of deception. The world is watching our Body and how the members of the body are functioning outside of the spirit of unity within a healthy body. The Body as it is needs much healing! We need to allow God to heal us of all wounds of the past and present for a healthy Body, which also includes bad habits and addictions, because when one member gets set down or when one member is exposed because of their poor character attributes it affects the whole body of Christ. God placed each of us in the body with gift and talents to succeed, but we need to stay in our place of positioning. Don’t try to be an arm when called to be a leg. Everyone in the Body of Christ is essential in the Kingdom of God, so let’s stay in our “called” position functioning in Unity as a “bright and shining light” for the world.”
