My husband and I have the responsibility of raising an almost 12-year old grandson. With that said, anyone raising children knows what it means to have some get-away time. Just recently, we were blessed by our daughter, who lives in another state, with eight much needed days, of freedom to enjoy downtime and much needed get-away days.
This past weekend we enjoyed a day at a County State Fair. It started out as a beautiful sunny day with a slightly cool breeze. We walked around the fairgrounds like two teenagers on their first date. As we held hands smiling and enjoying our freedom, we suddenly didn’t feel like the seniors we are!

After visiting various food vendor’s booths to sampled their tempting foods, (we normally don’t eat), we sat at a nearby table to pig out. At the table we sparked good conversation with others, thinking wow, “this is how grownups act!” We could get used to this type of living! No one to correct, no crying, no temper-tantrums, wow, we were like – “this is living!”
The evening ended with heavy rain and a thunderstorm. The storm did alarm us because we still had a great day enjoying a day Father God blessed us with.
As I’m writing this post, a scripture comes to mind – Psalm 46:10 “be still and know I Am God.” This scripture reminds me to align my thoughts and actions going forward by trusting Father God with every moment of every day as my refuge and strength. My thoughts now are, “don’t let even the smallest stuff move me!”
I really needed this downtime to remind me what is most important in life! Which is, God is still in control, even with an almost 12-year old. I am going to rest in Father God for the victories today and every day, knowing He is in control and He is my priority. He holds my future! Thank you, Father God for the reminder!
