In one of our workshops a Sister made a statement that is common to all women: “I don’t know who I am! My life has been absorbed with taking care of others, forgetting about self. Now I need to find me!”
We all knew what she meant. She lost her identity and her dreams.
Our Sister is in a new season. She’s an empty-nester retiree with time on her hands, wanting to discover her purpose and plan for life.
Many are in the same dilemma as our Sister, but the good news is that we don’t have to stay stagnant.
Father God wants to help you rewrite your story. He wants us to enjoy life. He wants us to use the gifts and talents He already blessed us with. An abundant, joy-filled life is not selfish—it’s stewardship of who He created you to be.
Begin by:
1. Asking Father God for a recall of your dreams and desires.
There were dreams you once carried that may have been buried under responsibility. Ask Him to bring them back to your remembrance. He placed those desires in your heart for a reason (Psalm 37:4). Pray: “Lord, remind me of who You created me to be.”
2. In your journal, do a “Dream Dump.”
Write without filtering. No editing. No judging. Just release it onto paper. Old dreams. New ideas. Secret desires. Things you’ve always wanted to try. This is between you and God. Let it flow.
3. Make a list of what you enjoy doing.
Joy leaves clues. What makes you feel alive? Teaching? Organizing? Decorating? Writing? Encouraging others? Serving? Creating? These are not random interests — they are indicators of purpose.
4. Identify the lies that rewrote your story.
Somewhere along the way you may have believed:
“It’s too late.”
“I missed my opportunity.”
“My season is over.”
“I’m too old.”
Those are not from Father God. Replace every lie with truth. Your latter days can be greater than your former days (Haggai 2:9).
5. Take one small courageous step.
Rewriting your story doesn’t require a giant leap. It requires one obedient step. Sign up for the class. Start the blog. Join the ministry. Volunteer. Launch the idea. Small obedience opens big doors.
Sisters, this is not about “finding yourself.” It’s about returning to who God originally designed you to be.
“You are not behind.”
“You are not forgotten.”
“You are not finished.”
This is a new chapter — and with God, every chapter can be filled with purpose, peace, and abundant joy.
Rewrite the story.
He’s already written the ending.
