“His” Word

Quite often I hear people comment that the Bible isn’t true or that the Bible is a fairy tale. Because I believe the Bible is real and God’s Word is literal this bothered me. The following scripture, from Hebrews 4:12, gave me understanding of others negative comments: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

After studying this scripture I realized the problem. Some read the word and others may have heard the Word spoken and either didn’t understand the Word or it offended them. As we study this scripture, it reveals 5 action attributes of God’s Word: 1) the Word is quick. In Hebrew it means the word is living or alive; 2) the word is powerful, meaning it is active; 3) the word is sharper than any two-edged sword; 4) the Word pierces and divides asunder ones soul and spirit; 5) and the Word can discern the intents of one’s heart.

God’s Word is a living active force with the likeness of a sword piercing an individual’s soul and spirit revealing the hidden intents of the heart. In other words, the Word of God reveals to the reader or listener his or her sin or rebellion. The Word of God, when read or spoken, will show an individual what needs changed in their life! The Word gets right to the core of our sin and rebellion! Unfortunately, we don’t enjoy having our sinful actions revealed to us, or to others, so we end up denying the truth making it easy to say the Bible isn’t real or that it’s a fairy tale.

Truth, the Word of God is what saved me and changed my life. Studying the Word has revealed to me the deceitfulness in my heart and how to allow the Word of God to teach me how to live a life of contentment, peace and harmony with others.

How has the Word of God changed your life?
