Light Breaking Through the Darkness

It was 6:45 a.m. as I lay awake watching the light breaking through the darkness. This dramatic awakening of the darkness to light drew me to two very important scriptures giving me understanding of a nature occurrence with a spiritual meaning:

John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

John 3:19-20 “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evilFor every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”

God created a world, which includes humans that He wanted to have fellowship with Him.  Unfortunately, there was also created a fallen angel, which has many names, Lucifer, satan, devil, serpent, etc., who hates God our Creator of everything good.  The Word of God tells us that Lucifer had darkness found in him, which is the darkness of “pride” and “envy” of God’s Glory (Isaiah 14:12-20).  Satan wanted to usurp God’s authority and Kingdom. When kicked out of heaven Lucifer, better known as satan, set up his own kingdom, known as the kingdom of darkness.  So, there are now two kingdoms in existence: the Kingdom of Light (Jesus) and the kingdom of darkness (satan).  Satan tempts individuals to serve him by baiting them with the temptation of sin and/or he causes evil or bad circumstances to occur in an individual’s life with the result of that person doubting the goodness of God.

Sin is rejection of God and His commandments by following satan and his demons. Those that follow satan will be doomed to eternal damnation.

Jesus, on the other hand, invites all to serve Him through love and acceptance of what He did at the Cross for whosoever will receive Him as Lord and Savior of their life.  Jesus gives life to His children, which is life eternal with Him.

Satan hates God so he hates God’s creation.  So, beginning, with Adam and Eve, satan baited them into temptation to do evil by opposing God’s truth.  He tempted them to be disobedience through the phrase “did God say….”  Unfortunately, his attack on Adam and Eve caused the Fall of man.  They believed satan instead of the Word of God and because of this act of disobedience, the world, including nature, till feel the effects of the Fall of Adam and Eve.

Satan uses the same tactic on us as he did in the garden of Eden!  “Did God say….”  He uses this phrase to distort God’s Word for us to doubt the goodness of God!  Friends, we will be tempted and circumstances will occur in our lives, but we have to keep ourselves reminded that there truly is a Kingdom of Light, who is Jesus and He can breakthrough any evil that comes our way as we trust in Him who is life and the “Light of this world.”

Satan’s “kingdom of darkness,” has waged war against Jesus’ “Kingdom of Light.”  There is a battle raging in the spiritual realm invisible to the human eyes, but felt in our personal lives through ungodly acts of violence, rebellion, evil and rejection of God.

Similarly, as during Biblical days until now, we live in a world that embraces evil. Everyone wants to do what is right in their own eyes and mind.  Laws, are being made to make evil good and good evil.  Just read the papers or watch the news, evil abounds everywhere, which are all works influenced by the kingdom of darkness.  Quite often we will experience the darkness of this world caused by the enemy of our soul satan.  These attacks are known as spiritual warfare!  That’s why we need to be clothed daily with the “whole Armor of God!”

John 1:5 states “In Him (Jesus) was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”  Jesus came to earth to set those bound by the kingdom of darkness free.  Jesus is the light pointing men and women to the way of life instead of death pronounce upon mankind through the disobedience of one man.  But John 1:5 reads that those bound in darkness comprehended it not, meaning they could not “grasp or lay hold of” who Jesus was and what He offered them.  Jesus came as the Light to break through the darkness of those who are bound.  So, why couldn’t they grasp the light?  John 3:19-20 gives us the answer!  They rejected Jesus because “they loved darkness rather than light, and loved there works of evil.  The Bible states that those who love evil hate the light, and will not come to the light because they didn’t want their sins reproved.”  How sad!  Those who love evil will spend eternity in hell fire, what a horrible choice!  Sin is pleasurable for a season (Hebrews 11:25).  In other words, when the feeling of that tempting sin fades, the pleasure dies also.  Satan can never offer anyone peace everlasting or eternity life.  Satan is darkness and has been doomed to eternal hell fire for eternity and he wants to take as many to hell with him.  Friends, the riches of Jesus are far greater than anything satan can offer.

The Book of Isaiah states, “hell is enlarging itself” (Isaiah 5:14) because satan has for centuries been active in deceiving men and women of every race, culture, political position, profession, students, etc., into hell.  He is no respecter of person!  But, let me say – our circumstances in life should never define us!  The events in this world should not define us!  The Word of God says a Believer is in this world, but is to be separate from this world.  We have been forewarned by God through His Word, that we will experience wars and hear rumors of wars; we will be tempted by satan; we will be offended in this world; we will experience unexpected circumstances; we will have struggles in this world, but friends, we have the Light of Jesus dwelling in us and Jesus is greater than anything we will experience.  Jesus’ Light can break through any darkness that tries to come our way, so we are not to be emotionally attached to this world and it’s system.

The “spiritual meaning” of this message is that Jesus came as the LIGHT of the world to earth to die a sinless death for the sins of mankind, that means everyone!. Jesus’ LIGHT can breakthrough any darkness in your life. What are you struggling with? What sin has you bound? What offense is keeping you from forgiving? Jesus died for all of these offenses. So, if you know of anyone who does not know Jesus and is bound by the woes of this world, please point them to Jesus and let your light shine brightly before them so that they can see Jesus through you and have the opportunity to be set free from sin.  Eternal damnation is nothing to wink at!
