I believe everyone is familiar with the quote below!
Sticks and stones my break my bones,
but names will never hurt me!
I don’t know the author who penned this quote, but what I do know is that they are in error. There are many people saved and unsaved that have been hurt by someone using slanderous names against them destroying their inner peace.
Many reading this post have probably been a victim of someone’s hurtful name calling. I too was a victim at the mouth of a name calling bully speaking words that destroyed my self-confidence, and I cared that pain into my adulthood. I receive calls and minister in person to hysterical individuals being verbally abused by family members or friends calling them hurtful names. These individuals are wounded in their minds not understanding why another person could be so hurtful.
Rallying names at others is a type of verbal abuse and is usually done out of anger, jealousy, teasing, or joking. All done with the intend to destroy the other person’s self-esteem. Individuals that resort to this type of behavior are hurting inside themselves and use their pain to hurt others.
If you have been verbally abused, know that God loves you very much and would never verbally abuse you. When Father God looks at you, He sees His masterpiece. You were uniquely created on His Potter’s Wheel as a one-of-a-kind child of God. No one can do what He created you to do in His Kingdom. Friends, when Father God looks at you, He says “you are good!”
Whenever you find yourself rehearsing negative names or words spoken over you, remember that is not who you are in Christ. Rebuke and denounce those thoughts in Jesus’ Name and declare aloud that you are a chosen and loved child of God. In Christ you are His wonderful masterpiece created to be in relationship with Father God, who will heal and restore your wounded soul (Psalm 23:3).
Remember, you are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus, so walk in victory of knowing Jesus has won your battles already!
