The Word instructs us to “love our neighbor as we love our self.” (Matthew 22:37-40 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”)
As one reads these scriptures, it must be noticed that love begins at home, love must begin with self! If you do not love yourself, how can you love others? If you are having a bad day or going through hard times, you may treat others how you are feeling inside. Your neighbor may not know what is happening to you and will think you are a difficult person to be around. So what is the answer for “loving your neighbor as self.” First invite Father God into your life and into your situations. Father God has an open door policy for His children and He wants to help us to live wholesome, joy-filled lives loving one another as He loves us. Allow God to transform your bruised or broken heart so that you can be the “light” he has chosen you to be to others. Learn to forgive others also, because the only one that gets hurt is the one holding the grudge of unforgiveness.
Father God wants us to love one another so that we can be an encourager to others. Encouraging someone going through a rough time can make a difference in that person’s life, it may be just what that person needs to help them out of a tough situation and to find God for future life issues.
Be kind to one another always willing to help in time of need. Father God is always there for us and this is a character trait that He wants us to imitate from Him.
Loving thy neighbor doesn’t keep a list of wrongdoings, but allows love to cover a multitude of sins. God spreads His love over you! So follow His example and spread some smiles and love to someone today!
