The other day I did a Google search on the topic of love. I wanted to know how many books had been written about love in the 20th and 21st centuries.
The search results were astounding! Millions of books, articles, and magazines have been published on love—covering everything from romance to self-improvement. With so much information available, one might think the world would be overflowing with love.
But that’s not the case, is it?
If we have so much knowledge about love, why are relationships breaking down? Why are hearts still hurting, and people still struggling to love one another?
Love, which is inherent in all of us from birth, should be a natural act of kindness and care toward one another. Yet the world’s expression of love has become flawed and self-centered.
Here’s the truth: we’ve tried to define love apart from its Creator. When we look for love apart from God we have a struggle within.
Real love—pure, and unselfish—comes only from God.
1 John 4:7–8 tells us, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
When we disconnect from our Creator – God, we lose the true blueprint for love. We try to love from empty hearts instead of hearts filled with God’s Spirit. This is why the world created numerous books of “how to” by expressing love apart from God.
The solution isn’t more information—it’s transformation.
When we return to the Manufacturer—God Himself—He teaches us how to love rightly: with patience, kindness, forgiveness, and truth.
So maybe the next time we search for “how to love,” we should start not with Google—but with the Word of God.

So many people search for love thinking it will be the perfect one. There are many types of love, I feel like my husband and my love of 35 years has had different stages as we get older.

I think people write so much about love because nobody really understands it.
