Psalms 19:7-8 “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”
In our Blog “Young At Heart” Part 1, we discussed a young at heart senior who lacked wisdom and rejected Jesus as his Savior. For this Blog I would like to followup with two young at heart senior women ages 94 (Mrs. P) and 95 (Mrs. H). I had the privilege of meeting both of these women on two different occasions and have been in contact with them on several other occasions. These women are both full of life and godly wisdom, five minutes with them and you know they are living an abundant life, and where the source of their wisdom and life comes from. They love sharing about the goodness of God with testimonies such as: how God helped them through trying times in their lives; how God gave them wisdom to raise their children; how God taught them to make minor repairs around their homes; how God taught them to do skilled tasks that required professional training, etc.
On one particular day, Mrs. H shared with me a testimonial that still amazes me. It’s her piano story! She told me during her young adult life, while belonging to her current church, they didn’t have anyone to play the piano. Every Sunday the congregation would come together and have praise and worship without music. One particular Sunday, Mrs. H said she sat at the piano, put her hands on the keys and prayed, “Lord, I don’t know how to play a piano, but if you teach these hands I am willing to play!” The Lord answered her childlike prayer! He anointed her hands to play! At the age of 95 she is still playing at the same church. What a wonderful and powerful God we serve! Whenever you attend Mrs. H church you will find her at the piano playing with the glory of God encompassing her. Her testimony is the truth of Psalms 19:7-8, in which it reveals that those who come into the Kingdom of God are transformed by His wisdom. The Psalmist says, “the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” The Lord gave Mrs. H the wisdom she needed to play a musical instrument she had had no prior knowledgeable skill – but God did and he poured it out on her. Only God!!
The contrast between the 92 young at heart man in Part 1 and these two women is that they confess God as their source of strength, provision and protection. Because of their faith and trust in the Lord and His Word, Mrs. H and Mrs. P experienced God’s transformation power in their body, mind and spirit. They learned what it means to live by faith and how to receive their petitions. They are walking testimonies of God’s keeping power, which keeps Mrs. P and Mrs. H minds sharp and their hearts filled with joy Whereas the 92 young at heart senior lives a life of hopelessness and confusion because he rejects TRUTH and WISDOM, which is Jesus.
The keeping power experienced by these two women is available to all who put their trust in God and receive the beautiful gift of His Son, Jesus. Psalms 19:7–8 is our answer for an abundant life on earth, which is the Word of God. The Word is life changing, it is spiritual food that can heal and restore a hopeless wounded soul. Psalms 19:7 actually says, “converting the soul and making the heart rejoice.” The Word of God enlightens the eyes revealing truths that will bring our mind and heart in sync, which gives us peace and joy for our journey. Try the Word, it is very easy to digest and doesn’t cause heartburn.
