My Redeemer Lives

I quietly listened as a friend was pouring her heart out to me about her Mother. She was saddened because her Mother, whom she loves so dearly, can’t remember her name nor any of their fond memories together because she has alzheimers. She continued, “I visit my Mother every day at the nursing home hoping she will remember me, but she doesn’t. Why doesn’t God heal her she asked, He’s healed others?”

Now that’s a tough question to answer! Yes, God knows how to heal! Yes, some men, women, and children have been healed, but there are just as many that have not been healed. Why everyone isn’t healed I don’t know and I don’t believe there is anyone on earth that can answer that question either! What I do know is that we live in a fallen world caused by satan, which includes sickness of all sorts. Sin and evil are cancerous diseases that are harmful and brings devastation to all it touches, including our physical bodies. But, lets not forget, we serve a merciful God who takes care of His children. God is not to blame for the evil or sickness that touches our lives, but, when it does, He is merciful and loving enough to take us through those dark valleys in our lives.

When my baby sister was sick and dying, at 42 years of age, we prayed and prayed for a miraculous healing. The healing came, but not the way we expected! My sister’s physical body died, but her spirit moved from earth to heaven. Father God took her home! Toward the last minutes of my sister’s life on earth, we begin to understand Job 19:25‭-‬27 (KJV) “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.” A Believer never dies, they are transported by God’s angels to the very presence of God (absence from the body present before the Lord, 2 Corinthians 5:7-9). Yes, we will miss our loved one! Yes, we may become disappointed when a loved one is not healed; but remember God is still in control and that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord. I would like to share the following poem that was read at my sister’s funeral:

God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.

So he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you, And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best. (Author Unknown)

My sister is no longer on earth, she is with her Redeemer pain free and healthy because Father God promises His Children in Revelation 21:4 “to wipe away all tears from our eyes; and that there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Reflection: Revelation 21:4 is hope for all Believers. Life on earth is temporal, while life with Jesus in Heaven is for eternity with a new body free of sickness and pain. Cling to this hope, because our loved ones will be healed and we will see them again!
