Forgetting Yesterday

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.  The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”  Lamentations 3:22-24 KJV

As Mary sat eating her lunch, she began rehearsing in her mind all of her bad decisions over the past several years.  She thought “if only I hadn’t made so many immature decisions, I would be further along in my life, and others wouldn’t have been affected by my immature choices.  Regrets are difficult to deal with she sighed!” 

Have you ever pondered in your mind similar thoughts as Mary?  Yes, regrets and mistakes plague our minds, and yes we may feel awkward within ourselves knowing we can’t take time backwards or undo our yesterdays, but don’t fret there is hope!

Our hope is in the Lord as we place our trust in Him by surrendering our regrets and mistakes to Him. His new mercies delivers us from the pains of yesterday because the Lord is full of compassion and understands our weaknesses.  Friends, because the Lord’s mercies are new each morning we can put yesterday’s burdens, regrets and mistakes behind us.  As our wounded souls cry out for help, confess and repent of those things from yesterday that has hurt self or others.  The Lord is faithful to wipe our slate clean each morning as we put our trust in Him.  The LORD God is our hope, today, tomorrow and in the future.

Reflections:  Living in yesterdays keeps our souls wounded, but we can trust in God’s new mercies.  So let’s confess and repent of our past for our minds to be cleared of yesterday’s regrets.  A mind free of guilt and regrets draws our hearts in worship closer to the One who loves us – Our Heavenly Father.
