15 Day Advent Before Christmas – Looking For Hope (Day 4)

Luke 1:11:13  “And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.  And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.  But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.”

Mary awoke to the warm sun in her face.  As she laid in bed her thoughts drifted to her cousin Elisabeth and her husband Zacharias.  Elisabeth had been blessed with a divine miracle!

The story is that while Zacharias was performing his weekly duties in the temple, to burn incense, he had a visitation by an angel of the Lord.  Being frightened he fell to his face when he saw the angel.  The angel told him not to be afraid because the Lord heard Zacharias’ prayer.  The angel went on to tell Zacharias that his wife Elizabeth would give birth to a child and she is to name the child John (Luke 1:11-22).  This news was so wonderful that it left Zacharias speechless, Mary thought.  Mary didn’t know that Zacharias was speechless because he had doubt the “glad tidings” from the angel Gabriel.  Elisabeth was now six months along when the news traveled throughout the community that Elisabeth is miraculously with child.  Elisabeth, once again was filled with hope!  Her dream of having a child was made alive again.  The community would no longer believe she was cursed for not having a child (Luke 1:24-25)!

Mary knowing, by Gabriel, that Elisabeth was with child decided to pay her a visit (Luke 1:36).  Mary jumped out of bed and made herself ready to visit her cousin Elisabeth to congratulate her.  The journey would take some to time to get there because Elisabeth lived in the hill country of Judah, so Mary left with haste.

While traveling to visit Elisabeth, Mary thought, what a coincidence that Zacharias was visited by the same angel, Gabriel, that visited with her also.  Hum, what does this mean, she wondered?

What prayer are you praying that Father God hasn’t answered yet and you have given up all hope of receiving?  I know your sadness!  I prayed every day for 16 years for a miracle to be done in the life of a family member that I love very much. Doing those 16 years, Father God which I didn’t learn until later, was working on me to let go and to get out of His way so He could do what He does best – work the miraculous in receiving hearts.  I would pray, then like Zacharias, doubt would set in my heart and mind.

We are reminded in James 1:5-8 that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways and that man will not receive their petition from God if not asked and believed by faith.  When I changed my heart from doubt to faith and got out of God’s way, He miraculously answered my prayer for my loved one.  Faith is always the answer!

Friends, pray with faith believing you have already received your petition and remember, “Prayer is the doorway to heaven, faith is the key that opens it!”
