Questions About Heaven #2

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”  Colossians 3:1‭-‬2 KJV

From the above scripture, we are encouraged by Father God to set our hearts on the things above, which is heaven not on earthly things!

So this takes us to Question  #2:  will everyone go to heaven when they die?

It’s a common belief by many that everyone upon death goes to heaven, but the Bible gives us a different answer.  Because of the fall of man (Adam) everyone born in this world is born a sinner. The Bible reads all sinners’ default destination is hell, because sin separates man from God.  So who goes to heaven? Let’s journey into the Word for our answer.

First of all, God knew Adam would fall, so He had a plan already in place.  In John 3:16-17 we read: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”   God’s plan before the foundation of the world was to send His Son Jesus as a sinless sacrifice to pay for the sins of the world.  Friends, Jesus came to save lost sinners.

Second, the only way for a lost a sinner to be saved is to believe in Jesus Christ and the sacrifice of Himself on a cross to redeem lost sinners back into a right relationship with God the Father.  When a lost sinner believes in Jesus, he or she supernaturally comes into right standing with God the Father. Believing in Jesus takes away our sins and His righteousness is now our covering. Psalm 103:13 reads “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” This means a Believer’s sins upon accepting Jesus are removed from him or her and they have entered into a Covenant relationship with God.  Their reward and final destination is everlasting life in heaven.

Third, an unbeliever is one who rejects God’s salvation plan of believing in Jesus Christ as their Savior.  An unbeliever’s final destination upon death is everlasting life in hell.

We just learned there are two categories or classes of people found in the Bible: 1) the righteous and 2) the wicked, and Proverbs 10:30 states “the righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.”

Heaven is prepared for those who have accepted Jesus as Savior of their lives.  John 14:1-3 is a great promise for believers:  “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.   In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.   And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”  Jesus is in heaven right now preparing a home for every Believer; and the book of Revelation lists detailed descriptions of our new home.

Heaven is real and the Bible gives us great images and descriptions of heaven it is a place beyond our imaginations.  First Corinthians 2:9 reads “But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” Heaven will be void of pain, sickness and all evil. In heaven there will be joy unspeakable and Believers will live in the presence of Almighty God.

Hell is also a real physical place! Jesus himself taught many parables about hell stating that it’s a place of torment, of fire, darkness and the worm dies not (Isaiah 66:24 is quoted by Jesus in Mark 7:47-48).  The Book of Revelation also gives many detailed descriptions about hell. Who are those that go to hell?  Those that reject Jesus which is God’s plan of salvation.  Also those that commit wickedness will live in hell forever. (By the way, satan and his demons will also be in hell.) God gives mankind a choice.  We have the choice to choose heaven by accepting Jesus Christ for eternal life or rejecting Jesus Christ for eternal hell.  We send ourselves to hell, not God. Friends, God already made a way of escape for the lost sinner – it’s our choice!  Hell is a horrible alternative to a beautiful heaven living with Jesus forever!  Let’s read what Isaiah 5:14-15 states about hell:  “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.  And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:”  These scriptures gives the reader knowledge of those who will spend eternity in hell with satan and every wicked person.  In hell the sinner will retain conscious and memory and their will be no release from the torments of hell.

To answer the question, “will everyone go to heaven upon death?”  No!  Only those who believe in Jesus will go to heaven.  Many may continue to think otherwise, but they are being sadly deceived because the Bible states not everyone on earth goes to heaven. That’s why genuine Believers in Jesus should tell everyone they know about a heaven to gain and a hell to shun.  So you ask who should you witness to – glad you ask!  Luke 6:43-45 gives us the answer “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [a]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”  If we know someone producing fruit worthy of hell it is our godly responsibility to plant seeds of the living Word to them.  For God say it’s not His desire that any perish, but all come to the saving Grace of Jesus (2 Peter 3:9).

“If you want to know Jesus as your Savior, ask Him into your heart by confessing you are a lost sinner in need of salvation.  Ask him for forgiveness of your sins.  Confess to Him that you believe that He died on the Cross for your sins and rose on the third day and He is now seated at the right hand of Father God in Heaven.”
