Rahab was a wise woman! What made her wise? Her choice to follow Jehovah God made her a “wise” woman. Rahab was a Canaanite woman, who grew up in a pagan culture that practiced idolatry worship, but she abandoned the comforts of her known world and pagan worship to follow the true and living Jehovah God. Once again, her faith in the One and only living God made her a very wise woman!
Since Rahab’s childhood, she heard stories of a people whose God delivered them out of Egypt with a “mighty hand.” These stories planted a seed of faith within her heart that would later save her life and her entire family from destruction. Rahab lived at the entrance of Jericho and was an innkeeper and a harlot. Little did she know that her Inn would play a key role in helping the Israelite nation?
One day two Israelite spies were spying out the town of Jericho and stopped at her Inn for lodging. The king of Jericho found out that the spies were in Jericho and possibly at Rabah’s Inn for lodging. He sent soldiers there to have Rahab turn them over to him. She misled the soldiers, telling them that the men had already left. She hid the two spies among stalks of flax drying on her roof.
After the soldiers left she told the spies “I know the Lord has given this land to you and that a great fear of you has fallen on us…..the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below. Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you.” The two spies were amazed at such faith and replied, “Our lives for your lives!” thus, sealing the bargain. They quickly handed her a “scarlet rope,” instructing her to tie it in the window on the side of the house built into the city wall. When they came to destroy the city and saw the “scarlet rope” hanging out the window, she and her family would be saved.
Rahab’s faith saved her and her family when Jehovah God sent the Israelite children to destroy the town of Jericho, and her faith gave her a place in the “Honor Roll of Faith” in Hebrews Chapter 11. Are you a wise person, have you made the decision to abandon the things of this world and to follow the “living God” Jehovah; if not, why not make the decision today? (Story of Rahab found in Joshua 2).
Reflection: What attractions of this world is hindering your walk with the Lord?
In Your Journal do the following comparison:
- Make a list of the advantages of following this world system.
- Compare this list with the Promises, Protection and Provision from God for you and your family as recorded in the Bible.
Can this world system offer you eternal life? Can you pray to this world system for help in time of need? Can you pray to this world system for healing for a loved one or self?
What Must I Do To Be Saved? Believe in Jesus Christ and pray the “sinner’s prayer” (Romans 10:9-10):
Pray: Dear Jesus, I come to you today as a lost sinner. I am asking that you save my soul and cleanse me from all sin. I know that I need help and that I can’t save myself.
I believe that you are the Son of God. I believe that you died on the Cross for my sins and the sins of the world. Forgive me for my sins and all wrong doings I have done to others and help me to forgive those who have hurt me. I accept You, Jesus, into my heart as my Lord and Savior.
I confess with my mouth the Lord Jesus, as my Savior and believe in my heart that God has raised Him from the dead and Jesus is now seated in Heaven.
========================================
Congratulations! You are now a “new creature in Christ and a child of God!” Now share the “good news” by telling someone else about your salvation.

Just last week at bible study we were reading the story of Rahab and discussing it and to read it again today here was good. Her faith had an effect on the protection of her whole family and that I am sure must have had some effect on at least some of their own faith journeys.
I liked the questions you asked at the end.

I live doing Bible studies, especially with the characters Father God records.
I am so pleased that Father God listed the characters in the Bible because it truly give us examples as we navigate through this life and our struggles.
